I am a photographer of outdoor subjects, including those made by humankind

I am interested in patterns, light and shade, textures, shapes and forms that black & white images can capture so well

I make my photographs using black & white film, mostly in larger formats, and make prints on photographic papers in a conventional darkroom

I try to make portfolios of coherent work with a common theme and sometimes a narrative; there is more information on projects under the 'projects' tab

I am largely self-taught, having been interested in photography since my late teens. However, I have had important instruction and mentoring from professional acquaintances and friends in recent times

I am based in East Lothian, in southeastern Scotland.
